PT.26 Casting For the Music Video

Below are the photos of the people I would like to cast and take part in my music video.  The main girl being Grace W, The Guy being Josh F, and the other girl Ana D each of them have different reason as to why I have chosen them for my music video.  I took the photos of the girls using my phone and a blank wall in my bedroom at school and got the other photo of Josh from him. I decided to keep my cast small as it is very much focused on the girl and her relationship and also from past experience I feel that it is easier to manage the cast and ask them what to do.

GRACE W

Above is my casting shots of Grace in which I had her wear the jumper she would be wearing for the Music Video. I decided to cast Grace as she is very good at her facial expressions and I feel she will portray the character of my music video very well. Grace has also had some experience of  doing drama and acting due to recently being in the school’s production this term. I feel as well Grace looks a lot like what I pictured my character to be like someone who you wouldn’t expect to feel the way they do and act the way she does once she finds out her boyfriend has been lying to her. Also Grace is good at memorising words from songs and so that is another reason on why I had picked her to be my lead role.

ANA D.

Above is Ana wearing the shirt she will be wearing throughout the music video. The reason I decided to cast Ana is due to fact how she is attractive and she can be seen as competition to others making her a little intimidating.  She is also in a relationship with Josh and  I want the chemistry of them to be shown in this music video to make it more believable and realistic. Ana also I know is very reliable and will do whatever I ask her to do and she is willing to help me out.

Josh F.

Above is a picture of Josh in this is what I would like Josh to wear however maybe without the tie. Josh like I said with Ana is a reliable friend and I can trust him very well and he has good chemistry with Ana making it look more realistic and believable.  Josh can also be very believable with his facial expressions and can look angry, happy, sad etc. This will be great in my music video as the Guy does go through all these emotions through out the video and i feel Josh will be able to portray this character well and that is why i chose him.

PT25. Location Shots

Below is a slide show of the locations I will be using for my music video. Most of the photos were taking on my phone around 2pm early December (and from this I learned that I would need to film late morning or early afternoon as I knew that light wouldn’t last due to where I am) . As you can see from the photos I took most of my shots are exterior as most of my video is shot outside. The locations include the woods, the view of the beach and across the water, the car park, a blank wall, living room and kitchen as well as a music room in the music department.

The Woods,Beach and Sea

The reason behind why I have chosen these locations is because I feel that they are good representation of  being able to be free as it’s outside and it is in the open where you can relax. A con to this however is that there will be members of the public walking around however I know that I should film at a time that isn’t busy.

The Car Park and Music Department

The Car park and Music department will be in my music video as the lyrics in the song is about a guy taking her out in his fancy car and so I feel there is relevance of him parking up his car with her in it. Similarly with the music department when the lyrics say he plays the guitar with her I feel this would be a good place to  do it as it is easy access.

The Blank Wall

I decided to use a blank wall as I would like all the focus to be on the lip syncing of the main character and as well as that I would also like the audience to see her facial expressions so that they can clearly be focus on her emotions.

The Living Rooms, Bedroom and Kitchen

I decided on these locations as well due to the fact I would like to make my video more believable and so I need to use realistic places of comfort.

Pt.12 9 Key Shots from a Music Video

Below is what I thought were the 9 key shots from the music video Rock Bottom by Hailee Seinfeld. I looked at her music video on Youtube and decided on what may be the 9 key shots and decided to annotate each shot into more detail and what I like about them.  I did This piece of work was because I can see what works well and catches the audience attention as well as seeing what could help me in my final video.

Here is the 9 shots..

Shot 1Screen Shot 2017-10-08 at 19.53.43

This shot I feel is a key shot as from this close up you can see the expression of the main character (the singer) and you can clearly see from the expression what emotion she is feeling. You know it is an important part of the strong storyline as through out the video you understand why she has became this upset. This shot is important because it is used numerous times within the music video as this is where the 2nd story of the video takes place which is the narration of it.  I can take inspiration from this shot for my music video due to the fact the storyline of this video is somewhat similar to mine and i like the idea of it focusing on the main character and telling her story of events whilst another story is playing in the video as well. I also like how it shows her emotions and it draws the audience in and makes it look more professional.

Shot 2

Screen Shot 2017-10-08 at 19.57.17

This shot is important as it is a long shot of them together happy and loving (you can see by the way she looks up to him). It is an interesting shot as the lighting in it is light and bright  and the colours are very neutral as if its representing how they are feeling (that they feel natural love between them and the light lighting represents that they are in a good place just now).  As an audince member showing this creates a relation between the you and the main character as you start to understand why they feel the way they do.  The inspiration i can take from this is to take a shot to show both my main character and their partner in love this will hopefully create the similar feeling you get watching this video of which you feel sympathetic  towards the main character of the story as you understand that is why they are feeling like that. i can also take inspiration of using the  bright light lighting to create that happiness of them together and also the homey kind of look.

Shot 3

Screen Shot 2017-10-08 at 19.56.51

This shot is important to the video because it shows the woman’s expression whilst she is arguing with her partner. This shot is interesting in its placement in the video because it fills in holes in the story how they are always arguing all the time. The angle of this shot is at a slight low angle as if he is looking down onto her him having more dominance in the situation and the close up of her face you can see her expression which is really effective on the audience as again you start to understand the way she is feeling. The camera position of this shot is really effective as you don’t really see his facial expression and you understand that the director and cinematographer wanted  you to focus on the main character and her feelings towards the situation and make you attach to them more than the other character. The inspiration I can take away from this is to focus on the main character’s expression through out the video as the audience connects with them more and understands their emotion and why the character feels the way they do.

Shot 4

Screen Shot 2017-10-08 at 19.53.59

This shot is important as it is a extreme close up of them together and again showing the happiness and the lovingness in the relationship (you can clearly see by the way they both looks at each other). It is an interesting shot as the lighting in it is low however  there is a dim light coming into the top left side of the frame and the colour of it again is very neutral as if its representing how they are feeling (that they feel natural love between themselves) Again as an audince member showing this creates a relation between the you and the main character as you start to understand why they feel the way they do.  What inspires me from this shot that I can use in my video is the look of love between both characters and also the extreme close up of that.

Shot 5

Screen Shot 2017-10-08 at 19.57.01

This shot is important to the video because it shows the woman’s expression of thinking and distress. Again this shot is interesting in the video because you start to understand why she is fighting with herself in the story, as it is placed at the end, where as though it represents her deciding  should she stay with him or not or even why is she still with him and its as though she is replaying all the good memories and remembering that is why she is still with him.  The expression of this character is something  I get inspiration from as it is something similar to the one I would like to create in my video as I want my character to think why she has been with the person she has been all this time even though she knew he was cheating on her. It shows how tired, drained and a bit heartbroken she looks yet the fight she has within herself to stay with the person and I would like my character to re-create this look.

Shot 6

Screen Shot 2017-10-08 at 19.56.40

This shot I think is another important close up because it shows her expression and how she is feeling towards the band performing and also her motives towards the situation they are in. In this shot in the video you see her making eye contact with the lead singer of the band and them asking her to join them to sing and for me her going to sing with them is her way of expressing how she feels about her relationship and wanting to be stress free from it all and to be okay again. It creates that certain mood of as an audience member wanting he to express herself to him so they can understand each other again.  The lighting is low in this shot to create the club feeling which personally I like.  What I like about this shot is it looks very professional because it is high quality and the background is blurred which means that the audience’s focus is on her face and how she is feeling. The inspiration i can take from thesis to make sure the camera focus is on her when in a big space and also the lighting fits the location they are in.

Shot 7

Screen Shot 2017-10-08 at 19.52.17

This shot is a key shot to the video because it starts to show her personality and circumstances/ struggles that she is going through with her partner. Her singing her her way of releasing what she has been holding in (releasing all her emotion). What I like about this shot is you can see the chemistry between the lead singer and the main character however when they finish she still runs out looking for her partner because she loves him. The inspiration i can take away from this shot is the lighting in the background  I can draw inspiration from it because it gives the effect is that she is finally finding the light to her life and realising it’s him and I want my character to similar feel that by finding the light thats she does not need him she can find someone better.  I will also use a similar shot to make my video look more professional.

Shot 8

Screen Shot 2017-10-08 at 19.53.16

This shot is important to the video because it shows both the woman’s and the man’s expression whilst they are arguing with each other. This shot is interesting in its placement in the video because it finally makes the audience understand from an earlier shot of her in the cab how she got into that situation, and you can also see that this maybe them arguing about her singing about how she truly feels about the relationship and this is them ‘talking it out’ . This scene fills in the holes in the story how they are always arguing all the time. The close up of both of their faces you can see their expression which is really effective on the audience as again you start to understand the way how both of them are feeling about the situation (one annoyed and angry the other annoyed and upset). The camera position of this shot is really effective as you are to busy focusing on them you want to know what happens next you start to understand that the director and cinematographer wanted  you to focus on this situation especially as it ties together the whole song. The inspiration I can take away from this is to focus on the main character’s expression as well as also at some points the other partners expression in the video as the audience connects with them more and understands their emotion and why the character feels the way they do.

Shot 9

Screen Shot 2017-10-08 at 19.54.36

This extreme close up I think is very important as it shows that no matter what they have worked it out and still love each other. The Inspiration I can take from this shot is the rise en scene, that is the rain and the lens flare in the back ground as in my video their is a line that says “make out in the rain” and I would like to re-create a similar look to the one that is being created here with the car lights in the background and rain falling onto them.
